King Louie x Studio Meike Nieuwenhuis

For Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, King Louie collaborated with Studio Meike Nieuwenhuis to design a unique, circular garment. After all, fashion and circularity can go hand-in-hand.

In the fashion industry, clothing that remains unsold often remains in warehouses. This is what we call 'deadstock'. Together with The Circle Club, we took on the following challenge: how can we give these leftover pieces a second life?

We found our solution in upcycling: a creative process that breathes new life into unsold garments. Studio Meike Nieuwenhuis creates colorful, conscious fashion with a strong focus on play, texture, and pattern. Meike explores how textile waste can be upcycled and thoughtfully integrated into existing collections. Her mission: to design small but meaningful changes through color, joy, and positive impact. 

This makes her a perfect partner for King Louie in this journey toward more sustainable fashion.

The design process of the circular garment began with dismantling the original items, then reconstructing them into new textile pieces. Leftover materials are transformed into wearable statements. By using techniques such as patchwork and quilting, we create wearable stories that celebrate renewal and imperfection. 

The unique upcycled outfit is the result of a creative collaboration and a tribute to vintage roots through reuse, reinvention, and responsible design & print design. 

The two-piece look features a patchwork quilted jacket inspired by the 1980s. It’s made from deadstock King Louie garments combined with wool houndstooth fabric from the archive of Studio Meike Nieuwenhuis. Paired with wide wool palazzo trousers, it creates a contemporary yet instantly recognizable vintage silhouette.
