RELOVE: BORROWING & RESTYLING

Sustainably handling your party wardrobe

Do you love to wear party clothing during the holidays, but have them laying in the closet for the rest of the year? Then we have the solution for you. Learn to wear your most festive items in a casual way, or borrow them from a clothing library.

Our tips

When it comes to the holidays, many people like to dress up. For example for a family dinner with Christmas, or a party on New Year’s Eve. Velour clothing, glittery items or shiny satin is very popular during this time of the year.

When the holidays are over, all those beautiful items go back into your closet and stay there for the rest of the year. Because that glitter jumpsuit is just a bit too much for Tuesday morning at the office. And that's a shame.

We hope to inspire you with tips on how to reduce the environmental impact of your party wardrobe. For example, by borrowing your clothes, or by learning to combine them with casual items so that you can still wear those party pieces year round!

Borrowing party wear from a clothing library

A solution for a more sustainable party wardrobe is borrowing items instead of buying them. More and more clothing libraries are emerging around the world. LikeLENAin the Netherlands, and Kleiderei in Germany. Does borrowing items sound like something for you? We encourage you to search for a clothing library in your country. Some also offer online shopping. Handy if you live far away from shops and stores.

How to wear your party wardrobe year round

Another way to deal with your party wardrobe sustainably is to keep wearing those items throughout the year. Mixing your item with a more casual item does the trick.

Party clothing is usually made of fabrics with a luxurious look or feel. Such as velour, glitter or satin. You can make the look more casual by mixing it with more everyday materials. Like jersey, denim or a knit. We’ll give you some examples.

Everyone can do it

Everyone can wear a festive item in a casual way. Because we all have simple tops, cardigans and sweaters hanging in our closet. Or a nice pair of jeans. And instead of heels under your dress, just put on your favorite sneakers. The mix is comfortable, yet stylish!

Try it out with the items that you already have in your closet. You'll see that you can make surprisingly fun combinations. Without being over the top.
